Description: About me

I have started my work as a research assistant in construction safety in 2003 at University of Toronto. The project I work on is called "Attitudes and Incident Causal Modeling for Construction" and is funded through a grant by WSIB

The project aims to uncover attitudes toward contractor safety initiatives, labour safety training, risk aversion or acceptance, peer impact, acceptable working conditions, and injury expectations before and after accident events, including minor injuries and near misses. The objectives of the research are: to document attitudes toward safety on construction sites during normal working conditions, to collect detailed information about events and conditions leading to injury and non-injury incidents from several perspectives, including physical, operational, and psychosocial factors and understand how these factors might lead toward or away from injury, and to develop a probabilistic model of workplace safety.

Past publications:

  • conference paper: R.Munteanu, J.Karahalios, B.McCabe, C.Loughlin, G.Robertson, D.Hyatt, S.Tighe "The Mobility of Employment in Ontario Construction" ( published in the proceedings of the CSCE's 6th Construction Specialty Conference, Toronto, Canada - 4-6 June 2005)
  • M.A.Sc. thesis "Workers' Attitudes Toward Safety in the Ontario Construction" (2005) (Civil Engineering Department of University of Toronto) under the supervision of Dr.Brenda McCabe
  • as co-author on the "Attitudes in Construction Safety" poster presented by Dr. Brenda McCabe at "Health and Safety Canada 2006 - IAPA Conference and Trade Show"

Future publications (related to the same project):

  • the final report of the "Attitudes and Incident Causal Modeling for Construction" project (due end of July 2006)
  • two journal papers (July-August 2006)
  • an ICon publication (a brochure distributed to the industry to better disseminate the results of the research project) (August 2006)

Other papers (undergraduate thesis, graduate course reports):

  • "Change management at Mondial Lugoj SA" (original title in Romanian: "Managementul schimbarii la Mondial Lugoj SA") under the supervision of Dr. Constantin Dumitrescu - June 2002, "Politehnica" University of Timisoara, Romania (BEng thesis)
