  • April 2-5. I will be presenting two papers at the 2013 ISA conference in San Francisco, one on typologies of democratic diffusion, and another on legacies of state birth.The first, presented on Thursday, April 4 at 10:30am is titled "From the Spring of Nations to the Arab Spring: Building Better Typologies of Democratic Diffusion." The second, presented on Saturday, April 6 at 10:30am, is titled "Legacies of Blood and Legacies of Law: The Effects of State Emergence on Political Development."   • March 20. I have an article in the last issue of International Theory, titled "Complexity and Theories of Change in International Politics." The article examines how complex systems can help elucidate patterns of change in structural realism and democratic diffusion. An ungated PDF is available HERE.
  • On February 26, I will be giving a talk at the University of Toronto titled "Competing Visions of Democracy in the Post-Soviet Space". (7-9pm, Room 144 University College, 15 King's College Circle). The talk is part of the University College lecture series "Vital Discussions of Human Security".   • On September 9, I was (very quickly) interviewed for a CBC news story on Russian-Canadian relations. You can watch the clip HERE.
  • On August 30, I wll be presenting a paper at the annual APSA meeting, titled "Legacies of Blood and Legacies of Law: The Effects of State Emergence on Political Development." The paper is part of a new project that examines the effects of birth legacies on the economic and political evolution of states. The panel is HERE. UPDATE Aug 29: APSA 2012 has been cancelled.
  • June 13. I have a guest post in the Monkey Cage about the continuing protests in Russia.
