Triglav Mountain

Triglav Mountain is the highest peak in Slovenia. Triglav has it's own national park which is over 80,000 hectares of land. Triglav translates into English as three heads. In the picture above you can clearly see three peaks, which are the highest three from all the rest. The highest peak out of these three is 2684 meters high. This picture is taken from the mountain of Vogel, which is only 1504 meters high. Anyone can climb Triglav, but it takes a lot of endurance and strength. There is a path that leads to the top of the mountain, where there is a little room. In this room there is a huge book. Whoever reaches the top signs their name in this book.

The journey from the bottom of the mountain takes a total of 12 hours. The first day they walk for 9 hours, and then they take a rest at a house which is situated near the top of the mountain. The next day the walk for around another 3 hours. It gets very cold when you are high up. On Vogel, 1504 m, the temperature was about 20 C, when it was 32+ C, down below. Vogel is only 1504 m high, just imagine the temperature at 2684 m! As shown in the picture there is snow all year round. At times when you walk up the mountain, it is so steep that it takes you a couple hours to climb 300m, on flat ground that would take you less than a minute. Other times you get so hungry and exausted, that you cannot go on. Sometimes people even give up and stay at the house overnight, then go back down the next day. So before you try to conquer Triglav be mentally and phiscally fit.

Triglav is also used for skiiers, but don't go on it unless you know how to ski well. Triglav has many avalanches, and has natural dangers, such as rock and forests. If you go skiing on Triglav be prepared for anything.
