RESEARCH SUMMARY

Ph. D. Research:

·         Characterization of Polymer Interfaces in Bulk

Successfully applied the fluorescence resonance energy transfer (FRET) and small-angle X-ray scattering (SAXS) techniques to characterize the interface of diblock copolymers (normally several nanometers) in bulk.

·         Numerical Monte Carlo studies of Polymers in Bulk

Developed mathematical methods to study chain conformation and orientation related to the interface in simulated lamellar structure of symmetric diblock copolymer. Designed numerical models to study FRET in simulation of confined geometries such as diblock copolymer lamellae and other planar, cylindrical, spherical and tubular structures.

·         Fluorescence Depolarization by Fluorescence Anisotropy Technique

Studied dipole orientation and mobility of chromophore in bulk and in solution.

·         Solution Behavior of Block Copolymer Micelles

Studied the solution behaviors of block copolymer micelles with the aid of FRET, dynamic light scattering (DSL) and electronic microscopy (EM). Able to characterize the size, shape and interface thickness of the micelle in solution.

·         Solution Behavior of homo-Polymers

Characterized chain conformation and dimension in solution by DSL, gel permeation chromatography (GPC) and luminescence quenching techniques.

MSc Research:

·         Phase Behavior of Polydisperse Polymers and Blends

Successfully revealed the physical essence of the effect of number average molecular weight on spinodal curve in the phase diagram of polydisperse polymer blends and solutions.

·         Thermodynamics of Polymer Blends and Solutions

Successfully revised the combining rules of the Sanchez-Lacombe lattice fluid theory based on experimental P-V-T data.
