The expedition has enjoyed the support and participation of many Egyptian colleagues. We gratefully acknowledge the generous assistance of the Permanent Committee of the Supreme Council of Antiquities, particularly Secretary General Dr. Zahi Hawass and his predecesors Dr. Abd el-Halim Nour ed-Din and Dr. Ali Hassan. Thanks are also due to Dr. Mohammed el-Saghir, Dr. Yahia Sabri el-Masry, and Mr. Ahmed Khattib, and to our inspectors: Mr. Adel Makary, Mr. Mohammed Gamal Sa'ad ed-Din, and Mr. Mahmoud Mustafa Mohammed. The Cairo staff of the American Research Center in Egypt and Mr. Mark Easton, former Director of the Cairo office, went far beyond the call of duty in assisting us, and their encouragement greatly contributed to the success of the project.
