So, here is a list of movies and their description, somewhat in chronological order.

The excellent transit system of Calabar is based on the motorbike. Private individuals who have a bike and choose to do so take people (almost) anywhere they want to go for a (usually) reasonable price. Actually, if you're a white person, the initial price is never reasonable. This video has been messily cropped using a shareware video editor down to a smaller size, to give you a taste. Because I have no audio hardware on my computer, the shareware software also decided to clip the audio track. But, it's still quite interesting to watch, and captures the streets of Calabar in a way pictures or stories never could. I don't know why, but it only seems to work in the Windows Media player if you first save it, and then open it from your computer (don't try to view it directly from this page, download it instead).movie

I picked a festive time to be in Calabar, capital of Cross River State and tourism Mecca. This video is from the first ever Calabar Carnival, which lasted for hours and was a judged competition of singing and dancing floats. The first floats were the traditional masquerade figures. Though it was not captured on video, the big red guy eventually rushed at the crowd, and I wound up having to dance with him for several moments before he would go away. Quite a thrill, and kinda intimidating, actually.. movie

We spent three days in the vicinity of Rhoko camp- a monkey re-integration and conservation facillity founded by the NGO CERCOPAN. A section of forest, formerly part of the community forest of the village Eko Eksai, was set aside purely for conservation and study in a partnership between the village, the federal government, and CERCOPAN. This movie shows a pan of the village, from a 2nd floor balcony where we were attempting to get cell-phone reception. movie

I have many minutes of monkey mayhem movies. My limited space allows me just this one. Listen for the cute sound these Mona monkeys make. I found them very meek and cute looking- something about their long necks and the way their face attaches to it. They are in the narrow entrance of the re-introduction enclosure. movie

What's the one of the most dangerous animals in the rain forest? Besides snakes, it's our friend the ant. Pissed off, purposeful, and occuring in huge numbers, the ants and the evidence of their presence that we saw in and around Rhoko camp were rivetting and intimidating. In the pictures section, a picture of the structure of a column of ants is shown in detail. Here, you can see the clearest video I have of the flow of the column. They were on the move to somewhere, and the column persisted for many meters before we lost track of it. movie
