Bilqis
Who Are We?
Bilqis: We are a group of 6 girls and call ourselves
Bilqis after the Queen of Sheba. We are one of the several 6 member
‘usr’ (Arabic: family) around Toronto which are geared
towards self development of its members.
We follow curriculum as set out
by MAC Youth.
We meet every week for two hours and every month (last Friday) with
other Usr’s. For our weekly meeting, we meet on campus of
University of Toronto, where we all study. We have several different
duties bit overall we read Quran, learn a hadtih, do a reminder,
recite the ayah we have learned, learn about a book, discuss any
issues we have, talk about the progress of our self-development
plan (PDP’s), work on our monthly projects and conclude with
dua. In our monthly meetings, we open with our reports about our
monthly projects. We rate each usr’s presentation to choose
the best one for the month. We are then given a short reminder talk
by Br. Khaled Qazzaz or Sr. Sara Attia who organize and head the
monthly programs, amongst others, who are all part of the MAC Committee.
After that we have our main program, a seminar on a topic with a
professional of that field. These topics vary from History to Politics
to Consensus Building – each geared to make us develop ourselves.
It has also been planned recently that every two months we will
spend some parts of the Friday night praying in a mosque.
