Wow, day 2 of the girl's journey and there are a lot of things to report. Both girls are breathing room air albeit with some assistance although in Emma's case it's minimal. Maddy is on a little more help because of the air that got into her chest cavity on her birthday but that will be cleared up real soon. Both of them have settled in well to their cribs and are very responsive to anything and everything that comes their way!
Here's Emma at 11.37am on Saturday. At last you can see her curly locks and those long fingers!
We know there aren't as many photos of Madeline appearing but that's because every time we went to take some she had her back to us. She was just waiting for the right time I suppose! Look at those blonde curls would you!
Here's Emma again.
Madeline showed signs of jaundice - not uncommon in babies no matter how far along they are - so the doctors put her under the bright lights and gave her a nice set of blinkers to shade her eyes.
Well now Emma wasn't about to be upstaged by her little sister so she put on a show all of her own finally opening up those big beautiful eyes for us all to see.
So here's her Grandma Garvie saying hello to Emma. That's Olga, one of Emma's nurses behind Karen. The nurses are so wonderful with the kids in the NICU. They give you so much confidence when you can't be there. Each of the cribs has a little tag on it announcing who the occupant is - "I'm a Girl!" or "I'm a Boy!". It has the mother's name and the baby's birth date and birth weight as well as a place for the father's name. They wrote Emma and Madeline's names on the top right hand corners of their cards.
Now here's Madeline with her night nurse Cheryl. You can see one of the banks of bright lights they've installed to treat Maddy's jaundice. Made for good photography while they were there!
