Setting Up The Machine
I installed the following software on the machine:
Debian Linux 3.0 Operating
System.
jdk 1.4.2_02 on the machine to provide Java
support.
ftpd to provide ftp access on my local
network to the machine's files.
Jakarta Tomcat 5.0.16 As the
web server for the machine. I chose this version of Apache because of it's
support for Java Servlet's.
My approach will be to connect the LCD display to the parrallel
port and test it with a program written in C. A Java Servlet will provide
intreaction with the display from the Internet.
The Webcam has a USB interface, which this machine doesn't have, so it will
be connected to another machine on the local network The images will be uploaded
to this machine through the FTP server on the local network.
