About Me

Growing up in rural Ontario, I have always enjoyed the outdoors and been curious about organisms and their interactions with the environment. In my free time, I enjoy travelling, photography, hiking, music, gardening, reading, knitting, and hanging out with friends.

I graduated from Acadia University in May 2007 with a Bachelor of Science (Honours) degree in biology. During my time at Acadia I was part of Dr. Ed Reekie's plant ecology lab and also took part in an experimental 'block' program in the biology department. These 'active learning' experiences motivated me to become further interested in research, particularly applications of molecular biology to ecology.

I am currently enrolled in the Master of Science in Forestry program at the University of Toronto. My project focuses on the role of polypore fungi on the canopy physiology of damaged and aging trees in northern hardwood forests, under the supervision of Dr. Sean Thomas. I am particularly excited about this project, as it encompasses a wide range of my research interests.
