The textbook for this course was Gordon’s Introduction to Old Norse. However, anyone interested in learning Old Norse should also take a look at the more recent series of texts by Michael Barnes and Anthony Faulkes, A New Introduction to Old Norse. The grammar, reader and glossary are available through the Viking Society for Northern Research and are highly recommended!

Introduction to Old Norse Literature
This lecture series introduced students to a range of Old
Norse-Icelandic texts in translation. We looked at topics
such as the settlement of Iceland, Old Norse mythology
and sagas of kings and poets.
