This blog is dead anyways.
I could start off by claiming I haven't had much time to post any entries lately, which is true, but honestly, I just haven't had much to talk about. When all you do all the time is work...
It has been 5 months down here in the good 'ol USofA and I've learned that they have the most *use super sarcastic reading voice now* fantstic liquor laws ever invented! *okay, you can stop reading sarcastically* nb. Since this happened here in CO, it may be a Colorado thing, but I'm going to broadly blame the US.
Here's the scoop: Whenever we have our weekly group meeting at work, instead of donuts, the presenters have to bring beer. Last tuseday, I and another Post-doc (coincidently also from Canada) were due to present, so we went down to the local liquor store to pick up 2 12's and 2 6's. We bring the beer up to the counter (manned by some young punk) where we are promptly asked for ID. No big deal, since one is apparently ID'd everywhere (grocery stores, restaurants, hockey games, yada, yada, yada).
Here's the kicker, my co-worker (who's in his mid 30's) doesn't have his wallet - and I was going to cover everything on my credit card. When the kid behind the counter hears this, he grab's the two cases (literally the two my co-worker "touched") and pulls them behind the counter. I'm then told I can only buy the ones that I've physically brought up, and he can't sell me anymore beer for the rest of the night. WTF?! How is this a useful policy to prevent underaged drinking? Are employees down here so retarded that they can't even make judgement calls on age when someone is a whopping 13 years over the legal drinking age (not that it should matter since the guy's not even buying anything)? This country rules...I'm totally feeling the freedom.
