Haejoo Chung's research interests include political economy of health, especially the impact of welfare states on health care system and population health, macro-comparative methodologies (quantitative and qualitative), work organization, employment relations, and pharmaceutical policy.

She has been research analyst for several academic organizations in North America and is currently research scientist for the employment conditions HUB (EMCONET) of the WHO commission on Social Determinants of Health, and research collaborator for Universitat Pompeu Fabra (Barcelona, Spain)

In the last four year she has published twenty articles in the public health field. Her most recent contributions include an analysis of the effects of welfare state regime type on population health; an examination of the contribution of political factors on population health in OECD countries and a theoretical analysis of the role of social structure on population health. Her more recent book contributions deal with an examination of the role of class analysis in explaining social inequalities in mental health.
