1999.Mini Album | First Kaleidscope

1st Mini Album (Indies) - 1999.12.04
First Kaleidscope~君の家に着くまでずっと走ってゆく ~

Romaji: First Kaleidscope ~ Kimi no uchi ni tsuku made zutto hashitte yuku ~
Eng: First Kaleidscope ~ I keep walking till I reach your house ~
TCR-001/Tent House, 1890 Yen (tax included)

1. Kimi no uchi ni tsuku made zutto hashitte yuku (I keep walking till I reach your house)
2. dreaming of love
3. Futari no rocket (our rocket)
4. Sky
5. Towa ni nemure (Eternal Burial)
6. A crown

This's their independent mini album released before they signed up with GIZA studio and this album stayed top for 3 weeks on indie chart. The songs were recorded in 'Red Way Studio'

'Kimi no uchi ni tsuku made zutto hashitte yuku' (rearranged) and 'Futari no rocket' were also included in their debut album 'First Soundscope'.

'Kimi no uchi ni tsuku made zutto hashitte yuku' (original indie ver) was the first track on their BEST album released in 2005, as you know the first track on this indie album signified their start and carried a lot of meanings.

'Sky ~ new arranged track' was included in their 4th album 'I'm waiting 4 you' (2004).

The lyricist Azuki NANA designed the cover art and booklets. (infomation from Japanese fansite Azuki's World)

heavenlypigsty's one-liner: First Kaleidscope is truly truly GARNET CROW in their most original skin. Yuri's vocal is unquestionably unique and the lyrics are one of a kind. If you're brainwashed by mainstream Jpop, this album will make you listen twice. (a nostalgic album too T^T, it's been 7 years since their debut!!)

2000.Debut Album | First Soundscope

1st Album - 2001.1.31
First Soundscope~水のない晴れた海へ~

Romaji: First Soundscope ~ Mizu nai hareta umi e ~
Eng: First Soundscope ~ To the sunny waterless sea ~

Highest ORICON Ranking: 6 (ORICON is the Japanese equivalent of Billboard)

01. Mizu no nai hareta umi e (To the sunny waterless sea)
02. Kimi no uchi ni tsuku made zutto hashitte yuku (I keep walking till I reach your house)
03. Natsu no maboroshi (Summer illusion)
04. Futari no rocket (Our rocket)

09. Holding you, and swinging
10. flying
11. Sen ijou no kotoba wo narabete mo...
12. wonder land
13. Natsu no maboroshi (secret arrange ver.)

These tracks were previously released as singles: 2,3,4,7,10,11

Miguel Sa Pessoa from Cybersound participated in the production of 'Mizu no nai hareta umi e'.

'Kimi no uchi ni tsuku made zutto hashitte yuku' is a rearranged version of their indie cover.

'Mysterious Eyes' is the intro of TV anime 'Detective Conan' and 'Natsu no maboroshi' an outro.

'Natsu no maboroshi (secret arrange ver.) was in fact the ORIGINAL studio version. The song was recorded within 3 days (the shortest record so far), during which arrangement and lyrics underwent big changes.

Rhythm was initially scheduled for release as single on Aug 9, 2000 but the plan was cancelled.

heavenlypigsty's one-liner: This's my favourite album!! It still carries a lot of their old indie flavours so if you like 'First Kaleidscope' you'll probably love this more coz the instrumentals are more refined. I got addicted to them after 'Natsu no maboroshi'. There're many other killer songs, like 'flying', 'Mysterious Eyes', 'Mizu no nai hareta umi e' which I know are the top favourites among fans.

2002.2nd Album | Sparkle

2nd Album - 2002.4.24
Sparkle ~筋書き通りのスカイブルー~

08. wish★
09. Please, Forgive Me
10. Holy ground
- Bonus Tracks -
11. Mysterious Eyes ~ dry flavor of "G" mix ~
12. Timeless Sleep ~ Flow-ing surround mix ~

Previously released singles: Track1,2,3,6

The album has two versions but you can't tell from the jacket. The booklet photos and track orders were slightly different.

'Yume mita ato de' is the outro of TV anime 'Detective Conan' and it was written when Yuri Nakamura(composoer & vocal) was still in high school and it took one whole year to produce this song. It's their top sold single in history and carries 'the most precious memories' (for Yuri especially).

'Naked story' is the intro song of a Japan-Korea collaborated anime series 'Adventures of Patapata Aircraft'.

'Holy ground' is the theme of TV programme 'Funny topic picks'. If not for Azuki NANA's strong insistence, it wouldn't have been included on the album.

heavenlypigsty: Their 2nd album Sparkle unlike previous ablums includs more balladic songs such as Yume mita ato de (fans' top 1 pick), Timeless sleep , call my name, and Last love song, and also really quiet tunes like 'Holy ground' and 'pray' which contain religious themes. Overall it's a much gentler album, and warm.

2003. 3rd Album | Crystalize

3rd Album - 2003.11.12
Crystalize ~君という光~

Romaji: Crystalize ~ Kimi to iu hikari ~
Eng: Crystalize ~ the light named after you ~
GZCA-5038/GIZA studio, 3059 Yen (tax included)

02. Kimi to iu hikari (the light named after you)
03. Spiral

08. Endless Desire
09. Nogare no machi (the street of escape)
10. Only Stay
11. Koi suru koto shika dekinai mitai ni (As if there's nothing else I can do but falling in love)
12. Yume mita ato de ~ lightin' Grooves True meaning of love

Previously released singles: Track 2,3,4,5

'Kimi to iu hikari' is the outro of anime series 'Detective Conan'.

'Towa wo kakenukeru isshun no bokura' is the ED of TBS programme 'Sunday Japan'. Miguel Sa Pessoa, who previously produced 'Mizu nai hareta umi e' on their debut album also helped in producing this track.

They named the album 'Crystalize' because it's a work resulting from crystallization of their blood and sweat. (ie. hard efforts...you get what I mean, hopefully)

Ask GC members what their fav is,
NAKAMURA Yuri - Marionette Fantasia
AZUKI Nana - Koi suru koto shika dekinai mitai ni
HIROHITO Furui - Endless Desire
HITOSHI Okamoto - Kyou no kimi to asu wo matsu

heavenlypigsty: First of all GC has matured a lot. You hear a wide variety of styles, from touching ballads like 'Kimi to iu hikari' to slightly folk and mythical sounding 'Marionette Fantasia', to jazzy 'Towa wo kakenukeru isshun no bokura' and rhythmic 'Crystal Gauge' which features very unique composition and singing. 'Spiral''s been their default live encore song for the past seven years lol. Lyrics wise, many themes are touched upon, fairy tales, philosophy or romance. Yes, it's a top notch album that gives you a wholesome taste of GARNET CROW.

2004. 4th Album | I''m waiting 4 you

4th Album - 2004.12.8
I'm waiting 4 you

GZCA-5052/GIZA studio, 3095 Yen (tax included)

01. Yuuzukiyo (moon at dusk)
02. Tsumetai kage (cold shadow)
03. Wasurezaki (blooming of a neglected flower)
04. Kimi wo kazaru hana wo sakasou (may the flowers that decorate you be in full bloom)
05. U

09. Blue no mori de (in the blue forest)
10. Ame agari no Blue (blue after the rain)
11. picture of world
12. Sky ~ new arranged track ~
13. Kimi tsure saru toki no otozure wo (the vist when you were far away)

Previously released singles: 3,4,7

'Wasurezaki' is the outro of TV anime series 'Detective Conan'.

Arrangement and lyrics of 'Bokura dake no mirai' were redone after its first completion.

The demo tape of 'Kimi wo kazaru hana wo sakasou' evoked images of rainbow when AZUKI Nana (lyricist & key.) were writing the lyrics. When Yuri (vo., composer) saw the draft she was surprised that Nana was thinking the exact same thing coz Yuri was inspired to write the song after she saw a passing rainbow on the bus. Yuri thought, did Nana see the rainbow? But wait, she wasn't there when I was on the bus!

'Sky ~ new arranged track ~' was a remastered version of their indie cover 'Sky'. The new version sounds more gentle.

>> Watch 4th album PV on youtube

heavenlypigsty: I sense a 'turning point' in their style, not a drastic turning point but in this album, the instrumentals are more sophisticated and pop-ish. You hear more catchy and fast paced songs like 'Bokura dake no mirai'(a good one!), U, picture of world etc. There're also highly touching tunes such as 'Wasurezaki' (mature and nostalgic) and 'Kimi wo kazaru hana wo sakasou'. Overall it's a good album, although not as much as I expected.

This album is a collection of their best labels from 1999 to 2005, including 18 singles and 6 album songs, plus two single c/w and two new songs.

Package: Hard cardboard box, double CD, very thick photo booklet. The album was released in 2 versions - preimium and normal. Premium ver. has bonus 5th anniversary postcards and CD-sized desk calendar (05-06).

Disc 2, Track 13 'Sora no uta' was initially written by GC for Sayuri (another GIZA artist).

Disc 2, Track 14 'Sayonara to tatta hitokoto de..' is a new song never before included in any album/single. It was only performed as one of the encore pieces in 05 Livescope.

heavenlypigsty: This album is a must-have for GC fans not only for the economy of it (3200 for 28 tracks and a thick booklet! What more can you ask for?), also because it was like a precious souvenir that marked their 5th year debut. For poor people like me who always hesitates to spend so much on purchasing singles, this's the perfect opportunity to collect them all in one album. And for those who aren't yet familiar with GARNET CROW, this's the ideal place to start!

This Remix album was intially only available during their 'I'm waiting 4 you & live' period (on sale at 3 places) but was later made commercially available for all.

heavenlypigsty: Well, it's a remix album and I'm not much into remix... But I particularly like the jazz ver. of 'Yume mita ato de', and also Hitoshi Okamoto's rendition of 'Crystal gauge' which has an acoustic, refreshing feel to it.

Premium ver contains 5th anniversary concert DVD (about 30min clips)

heavenlypigsty: Hmm... honestly I'm at a lost as what to comment. Personally I think the album is a mixmatch of different styles and moods but the basic theme is rather heavy weighed and speaks 'hesitation, wondering where to go and how to love'. It's definitely for more mature listeners to fully appreciate the impact of the message they're trying to deliver. It's an album that gives you courage and hope while at the same time pounds hard on your conscience. Yuri's vocals are great as ever, especially in 'Anywhere'. Simply astounding! The bonus DVD(premium ver.) is value-added =D
