CAMEROON
Two members will work with the Projet Integre pour la Promotion de l'Auto Developpement (PIPAD), a non-governmental organization. PIPAD is currently running a community-based health project in Dschang called "Mingha". This project provides rural women with access to free HIV testing, counselling, and antiretroviral therapy. Students will conduct research on the breastfeeding practices of HIV positive mothers
 

CAMBODIA

Four students traveled to Cambodia for the month of August with the Centre for International Health (CIH) at the University of Toronto . Working in collaboration with the Ministry of Health in Cambodia , CIH is currently developing a program that aims to enhance Primary Health Care in Cambodia . After decades of political and social instability, the Cambodian healthcare system has been eroded and the health status of the general population has deteriorated. While in Cambodia , the students primarily conducted health assessments and provided health promotion/education. The students' work contributed to CIH's on-going Primary Health Care project in Cambodia .


ECUADOR

Seven students traveled to Ecuador for three weeks in August with the Foundation for Integrated Education and Development (FUNEDSIN). FUNEDSIN is dedicated to improving the standard of healthcare in the Ecuadorian Amazon. The students worked in the Mondana Medical Clinic that serves 10,000 people living 35 impoverished communities only accessible by canoe. Students traveled to some of these communities as part of the clinic's outreach program. In their placements, the students participated in health assessments, prenatal care, health promotion/education, and administration of nutritional supplements. These activities were carried out under the supervision of the Mondana Clinic Staff.
