CPT: Heads Up

Heads Up

See CPT-HU.pdf for chip distribution, blind structure, prizes, and other details.

The next CPT event could be... a "Chem Poker Tour: Heads Up" tournament!

Buy-in is the usual $10. There are no add-ons or re-buys, but we may play another (standard T1000 - not heads up) game afterwards... so you might want to bring an extra $10 and stick around.

Since a successful "heads up" tournament relies heavily on the number of players (preferably 2n for integer n), it will come as somewhat of a surprise! Game 1 of the next CPT event where exactly 8 or 16 (or perhaps even 12) players show up will be a "heads up" game. The exact format will depend on number of players as follows:

16-player Shoot-out

This one's a 1-on-1 sudden-death shoot-out! If you eliminate your (randomly drawn) opponent, you move on to the next round. If you lose, you're done. This standard sudden-death tournament structure is shown here. However, chip distribution, blinds structure, and prizes will follow one of these formats.

8-player Double Elimination

Alternatively, if there are exactly 8 players, we will play a "double elimination" tournament. Winners of Round 1 move to "Group A", while losers move to "Group B". Losers in "Group B" are finished, as they will have lost twice. Losers from "Group A" move to "Group B", while the winners of "Group A" continue to face off. Follow this link for an illustration of the structure, keeping in mind the chips, blinds, and prizes will be different.

12-player Double Elimination

A slight variation to the 8-player game, the first round will feature 4 tables of 3. Winners of Round 1 move to "Group A" with a bye in Round 2. Losers of Round 1 (both 2nd and 3rd) play off for "Group B" spots in Round 2. Losers of Round 2 are finished, having lost twice. At this point, "Group A" and "Group B" each have 4 players, and the tournament continues as in the 8-player structure.

Disclaimer: Please note that 8s are not actually wild in Heads Up or any other CPT tournaments.
