CPT6: Kill or Be Killed

Kill or Be Killed

See CPT6.pdf for chip distribution, blind structure, prizes, and other details.

CPT6 is just around the corner!

This time, it's a FIXED LIMIT tourney. That's right! The only actions you have to choose between are "check", "bet", "call", "raise", and "re-raise". Betting increments are fixed: Pre-flop and post-flop bets, raises and re-raises are equal to the big blind; after the turn and river, they become 2 X big blind. See "Robert's Rules" for more information.

The other thing to pay attention to in this tournament is the "KILL" button. When a person wins a pot where at least the flop is seen, that player receives the "KILL" button in its inactive state. If a player wins a pot when he/she already possesses the "KILL" button (i.e. wins a 2nd consecutive pot), the "KILL" button is turned over. This player has to post a blind bet of twice the big blind on the next hand, regardless of table position. This is repeated until another player wins a pot (where at least the flop is seen) and obtains the (deactivated) "KILL" button.

We can discuss before the game, but we'll probably kill the KILL button after the first break... Otherwise, it'll get annoying, especially when the table gets small and the blinds get big!

Some advice on strategy: If you're not used to limit poker, it's a whole other beast! Since there's a limit on the maximum bet, it is generally more difficult to force out "weaker" preflop hands, and may be next to impossible to effectively bluff.

As usual, we'll likely play a second tournament after, so bring an extra $10 in case you might need it. It'll be the same format (same chip distribution, same blind structure) but No Limit. As always, all tournaments count toward your stats in the league rankings. This shouldn't pressure those who opt out, since the rankings are primarily based on AVERAGE tournament points.

Hope to see you at CPT6. Good luck, and may your aces hold up to the river!

Eights are WILD!

No, not in the poker game... but I just wanted to remind you that if we get exactly 8 or 16 players showing up to CPT6, it'll be superseded by "CPT - Heads Up"!
