About Me

From the west coast of Canada, I have travelled all the way to Ontario to pursue my post-secondary education. After earning my bachelor's degree from Queen's University in Life Sciences, I decided to pursue a Master's degree in Pharmacology at the University of Toronto in the Matthews Lab. My research interest is in toxicology and cancer-related topics. It is well known that genetics play an important role in the development of cancer, but environmental factors should not be overlooked. Unlike genetics, we can modify environmental factors more easily as a way to reduce the occurrence of cancers.

In the Matthews Lab, I will be using next-gen ChIP (chromatin immunoprecipitation) sequencing to look into possible crosstalk among the pathways of aryl hydrocarbon receptor (AHR) and another receptor protein of interest, the estrogen receptor alpha (ERa), which is known for its role in the development of breast cancer. Further knowledge in the crosstalk between these receptors will be important in improving therapeutic responses of drugs targeting these receptors and to avoid possible adverse drug-drug interactions.
