I often do experiments on the computer. I'll post some of these here.
I have begun working out the mechanics of a spinning top. This is spawned partly from work related to my Classical Mechanics course (completed now), and partly due to my interest in building devices for space where angular dynamics are key to controlling devices. I'd like to work on a garbage collector which removes dangerous debris from orbit. Ideally, it would accelerate up to an object (after detecting or being told where it is) and then latch on and slow down the object and either throw it down to earth or fling into space. The act of slowing it down could be a potential energy harvester for the garbage collector. In any case, the attitude of the device is going to be tricky to track.Here is an unfinished document of the top.
