LeClaire Courts Transportation and Access Study by CHA and CMAP
The report conducted by the Chicago Housing Authority (CHA) is a market-oriented approach to the developmental potential of LeClaire Courts for the “GO TO 2040” regional plans. Specifically, CHA addresses the former social housing lot of 44 acres and proposes to create community anchors such as incorporating a charter school beside LeClaire-Hearst Park. The neighbourhood is occupied mostly by middle class Latino families; as of 2012, LeClaire Courts is 54.1% white, 4.2% black and 69.3% Latino. This comes two years after the demolition of the social housing lots which explains the small Black demographic. Furthermore, the study explores various potentials in public transportation and cycling in hopes that mobility would encourage development. However, the neighbourhood’s history and spatial isolation creates challenges in achieving CHA’s goals of mixed-used development.

Proposed New Campus for Academy for Global Citizenship by Studio Gang
Bounded by W 44th Street and S Laporte Avenue, the new proposed campus for Academy for Global Citizenship (AGC) encompasses values of environmental sustainability and social justice. The project is made possible by the Governor Pritzker funding of $31 million (2019). The school redefines education in correspondence to contemporary ideals and needs. The blurring of classrooms and non-hierarchical structure of grade groups is demonstrated through indoor and outdoor spaces.
