ANALYSIS OF GREEN DRESS 

 

1. DESCRIPTION: Substantial Analysis


1. I MATERIAL

Fiber: 100 % WOOL- Method of identification: burning test and hand

Weave: Twill. A weave used to produce the effect of parallel diagonal ribs. The twill direction on the face is right hand (RH). The twill line goes up to the right from the lower left to the upper right, The angle of the twill is regular: 45 degrees.

Generic name of the fabric: Not known, probably some kind of wool flannel

Taffeta used for the collar's backing.

 

1. II CONSTRUCTION
 

Sleeveless 

 2 front patch pockets

 Rounded Collar

  2 decorative tabs

 6 small metal buttons on the front bodice

 26 big metal buttons on the front skirt

 6 fabric covered buttons for the front opening

  

 

The dress was home made.  There is no tag and there are some details that have  been sewn by hand.   The  decorating seams on have not been sewn with a two-needle sewing machine.   Each seam has been sewn individually and there are not perfectly parallel.   The hem line was hand stitched. 

 All seams allowances have been serged with a white cotton thread. The interior of the dress looks very neat.  No lining.

The front bodice and the back have princess seam lines. The back has no waist seam, the princess line goes all the way down.

 The cut is a basic A-line pattern and opens at the front. The front is divided in bodice (two panels at each side) and the skirt. The back is cut in four panel. All the panels have been cut to match the twill baste in the same direction. The front pockets have  two panels and have also been cut  on the salvage.

1. I OBJECT'S FORM or CONFIGURATION Trapezoid shape, slightly flared.  Pockets, collars and other details are semicircular.

 1. II VISUAL CHARACTER

  The front is decorated with white seams and metal buttons. The skirt is decorated with seams in a diagonal grid pattern.   The contrast between the white seams, the green fabric and the rounded shapes,  makes the dress  to look visually strong.
 1. III OBJECT/BODY The patterns are cut to shape the body but not to fit it too snug,. Since the woolen fabric is quite have there is not a lot of draping.
 1. IV COLOUR./TEXTURE Benetton Green and white. The fabric is slightly napped on the surface.
