Professor Yuanchao Lei

Professor Yuanchao  Lei was born in 1926 in Lanshan (Blue Mountain) County, Hunan Province, China. In 1950, he was graduated from the Department of Electrical Engineering, Tsinghua University.

Since graduation, Professor Lei first worked in Harbin Military Engineering Institute. The institute renamed to Harbin Engineering Institute in 1966, and to Harbin Shipbuilding Engineering Institute in 1972 (now known as Harbin Engineering University). Professor Lei kept on working there till 1983.

From 1983 he was the department head and professor of the Department of Automation Engineering, Beijing Institute of Light Industry (now known as Beijing Technology and Business University). He retired from the university in late 1996.

In China, Professor Lei is one of the pioneers and lead scientists of Ship Navigation System. He is the author of  "Inertial Navigation System", a famous (probably the first) book of Inertial Navigation System and Technology in China.

Professor Lei's research interests include: Inertial Navigation System, Automatic Control Theory and Application, System Identification and Modeling.

From 1993 to 1996, I was supervised by Professor Lei in my M. Eng. in Industrial Automation program. As one of his graduate students, I heartily wish Professor Lei all the best in his life of retirement.
