KH:COM TO USE AM3 TECHNOLOGY
Posted on 10.27.2003 by Sifar
A conference held in Tokyo shed some light on the new technology that Square Enix will use in Kingdom Hearts Chain of Memories (GBA). Shinji Hashimoto, Producer of KH:COM, informed an audience that KH:COM will be using "Advance Movie" technology to showcase the FMV styled cutscenes of the game. The new technology has been developed by AM3 and involves the use of an adaptor. The adaptor is a little bigger than a GBA game cartridge, and contains a slot in which to place a card. The Smart Media Card will contain all sorts of content that can then be viewed on the GBA's screen. The Card can hold approx. 32mb of compressed data, and 24 minutes of video. The new technology can play videos, images, music (lower quality than MP3, but very similar) and much more. The image compressed technology will be using the power of the ARM7, which is the CPU of the GBA.

The adapter will cost around 3,200 JPY, and an empty smart media card will cost around 1,800 JPY. Both will be released in Japan on November 20, 2003. AM3 has shown interest in bringing the new technology to the US of A. It has also mentioned that it will start an online service where users can download new media from them for a monthly fee ranging from 100 to 500 Yen.
