DIGICUBE FILES FOR BANKRUPTCY
Posted on 12.08.2003 by Sifar
Japanese game retailer, DigiCube, filed for bankruptcy in Tokyo this past week. The company's debts had reached 9.5 billion yen and could not be repaid due to Japan's shrinking gaming market. DigiCube was best known for selling most of Square Enix's (mainly Squaresoft) soundtracks. The company mentioned how the delay of Final Fantasy XII was one of their major reasons for deciding to file for bankruptcy. Square Enix held a 38.38% stake in DigiCube. How this will affect the future of Square Enix's soundtracks is yet to be seen. Square Enix may very well go with Avex which was the publisher used for Final Fantasy X-2's soundtrack.

Due to the fall of DigiCube, the Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles Ultimania Book has been cancelled. DigiCube was acting as the books publisher, and it was to be released on December 22, 2003. This leaves many fans worried as to how Square Enix will release the FFVII Paino Collections CD, the action figures, and the FF jewellery that were all available via DigiCube. We will bring you word from Square Enix as it is told.
