FINAL FANTASY XI WINS BEST ONLINE GAME AWARD

On December 2, Final Fantasy XI won the award for "Best Online Game" at the first Spike TV annual video games award show. The event was held at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. To get the award, FFXI beat games such as Battlefield 1942 and Star Wars Galaxies. FFXI was also nominated in the "Best Fantasy Game" category, however it fell short to Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic.
