MAINICHI'S INTERVIEW WITH YOICHI WADA
Posted on 12.30.2003 by Sifar
Mainichi Interactive was able to conduct an interview with Square Enix President, Yoichi Wada. There they asked him about the company's current condition, and how it has become better after the merger with Enix. The Tokyo University graduate and former Nomura Securities manager mentioned how the company's attention is not only on games but on magazines, manga, anime, networking and mobile operations. One of the merger's best outcomes was its North American operations seeing that they now have their own ability to publish games in that region. Wada discussed how he felt Square Enix should change with the times, and thus is putting more interest in online gaming. PlayOnline alone has over 450,000 users already. That number could substantially increase as the years go by. He mentioned how SQEX should work on making titles different from just the FF and DQ series. The 44 year old also discussed how they were having a headache deciding when to release FFXII and DQ8. He did not want one title eating up the sales of the other. At the end he talked about how Square Enix was going to show more interest in building up their stakes in the North American, European, and Asian markets.
