GITTT (git-based transcriptions and translations)

GITTT (git-based transcriptions and translations) is a tool that will allow editors and translators to demonstrate Linus's Law: "Given enoguh eyeballs, all bugs are shallow." The goal is to produce camera-ready copy, to allow multiple users to edit the document, and to provide revision control. It is designed around the needs of the Buridanica Project, but can be made to generalize to similar projects.

Components:

• doc2gitttex, a tool (run either from the commandline or the web) that converts a specially formatted MSWORD document containing a split-column Latin-English text into two LaTeX files, which, when compiled via tex2pdf, will provide a split-column Latin-English pdf.
• gitttex2pdf, a tool (run either from the commandline or the web) that converts two specially formatted LaTeX files into a split-column Latin-English pdf.
• gitttexed, a tool (run from the web) that displays two specially formatted LaTex files in split-column Latin-English html, divided into individual paragraphs with a png image of the pdf output beneath each paragraph, allow editors to edit the text, comment on it, and view comments.
• gitttman, a tool (run from the web) that allows editors to manage, upload, and convert documents (via doc2tex or tex2pdf).
