Name: Students For Barrier-free Access (SFBA)

Purpose: To promote accessibility and awareness of accessibility issues in the University of Toronto community; to serve as a focal point for social activities for students with a disability on campus; and to become involved in outreach and advocacy on behalf of persons with a disability in the University of Toronto community.

Membership: The membership of the group shall be drawn from members of the University of Toronto community (this includes students, staff, faculty and alumni). Members may have a disability, or may be able-bodied individuals interested in disability awareness issues and advocacy.

Executive: The group will have as its executive body the following elected officers: Chair, Secretary, Financial Director. The positions of Vice-Chair, Social Co-Ordinator and Outreach Co-Ordinator will be added should the membership exceed 20 persons.

Finances: Students for Barrier-free Access manages its finances through a non-profit account at the Bank of Montreal. There will be a $20.00 per annum cost for group membership with the National Educational Association of Disabled Students. The group will also manage its own fundraising initiatives for activities and projects.

Meetings: The meetings will take place on a monthly basis throughout the Fall, Winter and Summer academic sessions. With this in mind, there will be approximately 12 meetings per year. Agendas for meetings will be dictated by initiatives that the membership chooses to pursue.

Elections: Elections shall be held at the start of each academic year, in accordance with guidelines set out in Robert’s Rules of Order.

Amendments: At the beginning of each academic year (September), the membership will be asked to assess the constitution, to ensure that it remains representative of the membership and the direction the group is taking.
