Baby, when you're gone

4.03.2006
So I came back from a weekend in eastern Ontario and it was mighty fun. Went to Ruby's art gig/art festival and it was super. This one performance in the festival just blew my mind away - I was unimpressed with some of the other performers but loved what Rubes did. Anyhoo then I was off to Dave's house party- mighty fun, I think I was the only Asian anglophone who was there and a bit of a offlandish bystander as many people tried to practice their English with me and kind of treated me as "that English-speaking Asian". But they were all pretty nice, there wasn't any racist comments or gestures to exclude me. I guess alcohol helped as I also talked to one person, Francis, completement en francais sans etre interrompe and it was cool. There was also a girl who had a delightful British accent with her English but was often offended when I tell her that t'as un accent anglais, to which she would reply "fuck you" (in a joking manner). She was a good time.

So I didn't work as hard as I should have during the weekend as I was in Ottawa/Gatineau for a Jumelage project with Uniterra UQO. However I was really impressed by Medhi and his crew at UQO- I do wish that they were my WUSC local committee instead! And too bad Medhi is not in AIESEC- his vision, his ideas and approach are highly motivating and I know that if he was an AIESECer, he can probably be MCP any day.

As of the moment I am just taking it easy and trying to finish up my last and final work project with the University of Toronto Art Centre. I am responsible for one of their quarterly e-newsletter, A.Centric, and I am already a weekend behind. Hopefully next year I can return to this job again as I really enjoyed it, and it has been a lot of fun in taking an editorial position and being able to be involved in part of the design for the layout.

Next up: my CEED project; I am crossing my fingers that the visa process for Brazil will work out fine as right now I am facing a couple of problems with my Canadian passport's expiry date and a couple other timeline/logistics issues...
