Research experiance
September 2008 -August 2006-August 2008
- In my Masters at Lakehead University, I explored how composition and diversity of plant communities along small stream riparian ecosystem changes as result of forest management disturbance
- Studied bellow ground interactions between conifers and ericaceous plants (as a special topic course with Dr. Mallik)
Research experience at IUCN -The World Conservation Union, Bangladesh country office
In the Ecosystem and Landscape Management Unit, I worked on several projects:
- Evaluated presence of invasive species and patterns of invasion in the Sundarbans mangrove forest [under ADB funded SBCP project]
- Developed an unified mangrove restoration technique bridging ecology, society and economy [under UNEP/GPA funded pilot restoration project]
- Actively drafted and coordinated the team for the preparation of National Progarmme of Action for Combating Desertification in Bangladesh (NAP Under UNCCD- DoE/GOB)
- Actively drafted and coordinated the team for the preparation of National Programme of Action for the protection of Coastal and Marine Environment from Land and Land based Pollution (NPA under UNEP/GPA -DoE/GOB)
- Evaluated biodiversity in six ecologically significant sites in Bangladesh and published series of research notes (provided background support for NBSAP under CBD - GEF)
- Evaluated the sustainability status of forests and forest management practices in Bangladesh [personal interest]
- Evaluated how youth could contribute effectively in sustainable mountain development [NC-IUCN funded ecological restoration project]
- Assessed economic damage through human elephant conflicts [US Fish and Wildlife funded Asian Elephant Conservation project]
- Developed a participatory model for restoration of degraded hill forests of Bangladesh [NC-IUCN]
