Ø       Lara St. John - In February, Ms. St. John gave an exciting recital in Jane Mallet Theatre, playing Bach and Bartok. For me it’s one of the seasonal highlights of Music Toronto. The next day, in the pages of Toronto Star, John Terauds gave a fair and positive review, but unfortunately made an uncomplimentary comment on the dress Ms. St. John wearing. What he said was quite true, though unnecessary and improper. The violinist was offended and fought back in the same pages a few days later. The story is re-visited today by the New York Times critic Anne Midgette in her article The Curse of Beauty for Serious Musicians (external link, registration required).
