In some places the river narrows down to 40 or 50 feet. (see "D" on the map). Except where a small stream might flow into the river or where there is a lake, there is usually no beach to speak of. The river current at this time of the year wasn't very strong so paddling upstream was easy going.

Sadie was a real trooper. She lost her front left leg in a car accident earlier that year but she managed really well over the rough terrain when we had to portage.
