Better Late Than Never?

19/11/2002

I have been surfing the Net since I was in grade 10... which would make it sometime in late '92. That's longer than a goodly number of people. (I've been blessed with a lifelong exposure to computers: my father bought an IBM PC when they were first released in the early '80s. I was 3 or 4 at the time, and the only things I understood were the games, but it got me hooked...)

But I just realized a few months ago that most of my surfing tends to be academic research. The little that is not related to this is either comics or online shopping. I had heard of weblogs, but had never bothered visiting any, or even thought of maintaining one of my own.

Of late, I've visited a few — some friends, some strangers — and decided that I want one of my own.

Mind you, this might be a Peter Pan syndrome of sorts. Most bloggers are in their late teens or just turned 20. At the very least, they tend to start when they are still in high school. Here I am, a Master's student (and hopefully, even that will soon be a past stage of my life), trying to be like them. I've always been slow to catch onto trends; perhaps this is the ultimate sign that the Blog is dead.

Even if such is not the case, I don't know what to add here. There's not really enough that's interesting in my life to post. I have never really been one to air dirty laundry in public, anyway. And although I would be perfectly comfortable telling complete strangers about the people around me, I don't necessarily want to tell my friends about each other. I don't like getting on people's bad side; if I keep all negative thoughts to myself, it reduces the chances of that happening.

We'll see what shapes up on this page...
