Aug 30.03 Did the boat party on Sibbald Point today with Jada, Sally and Jaclyn. We attempted wakeboarding, took more import model pictures, and did another Ring video. Later, we had barbecue with my family and went out on the water for more antics. Extreme tubing ensued, as well as hole-digging and sand-trapping. We all came back with sun-beat, heat-radiating, dry, red, glowing faces. Back at my house, Sally and I raced against time to get glimpses of a thin crescent moon while Jaclyn watched a movie for a fourth time with Jada. Kenneth dropped by for more socializing, and he took us out first to Demetre's, which was full and had much too much pretense for our red-faced, sloppy dressed crew, and then to Williams' Pub, where we had a large serving of waffles and chitchat. --------------- Aug 28.03 Went to Wonderland for free with Jaclyn and Sally. We hung out at the water park for the first half of the day noting the pretty people to ugly people ratio, and then later went to do some of the 'rides'. The best ones were: Warriors of the Dawn and Return of Thunderrun. Spongebob 3D gets a dishonourable mention. --------------- Aug 27.03 Today was dress-like-a-fob day with Kenneth Renee and Tammy. I didn't have any fob clothes so I did the whole ambiguously gay university student thing. We rented The Following *again* (I wonder if we'll ever watch it) and Ginger Snaps, which we did watch. I really enjoyed the first half but later the movie lost its charm. We then played MJ and gossiped, then ate dinner at First Markham Place and gossiped, and finally came back to Kenneth's hosue for more MJ and later bitter chatting in the basement. --------------- Aug 26.03 Patty's grad fairwell party. Did dinner and yearbooks, chatting and watched Finding Nemo on a bootleg DVD. Great movie, less-than-great quality. --------------- Aug 25.03 Went downtown for miscellaneous university errands and miscellaneous shopping. I'm actually learning how to haggle! --------------- Aug 24.03 Went up to Sibbald Point again for some boating. It was extremely cold and gloomy but while waterskiing, the surface of the water was so glassy (well, warped-glassy) that it was like gliding. Later, played with Netmeeting which was extremely cool. I need to get a new webcam though because of the ratty quality of my own. Coming soon: online strip-poker (like netbig2, except with webcams and stripping). You *know* you want to play this game. --------------- Aug 23.03 Watched Chicago. Verdict's still out on this one, since my sister had bought the soundtrack after the movie came out, and had played it about two or three times daily for about a month. I could sing along with most of the songs in the movie. Nevertheless, aside from all the annoying casting, I venture to say that it was still not extraordinary in substance or surface. My vote goes to Moulin Rouge for that, even with its sappiness. The only things of interest in Chicago for me were Lucy Liu's cameo and the very brief insightful moments where you realize how hard the characters were trying to get noticed. What I didn't care for: the ending. And Richard Gere's singing voice. Enough said. --------------- Aug 22.03 Went bowling with Kenneth, finally! And we kicked snobby asian ass. I got way more strikes than spares, though, which showed that I'm getting rusty. Lots of fun though. And we did manage to bang up the pinsetters, as usual. Played a little cards later, and got delightfully murdered. Later, watched Pirates of the Caribbean with the family, which was surprisingly good. It had a few cool, unexpected twists, humour but not painfully so -- most was provided by Johnny Depp, who managed to avoid being a comic relief bit, and I have to say, stole every scene in the movie (nevermind the fact that he is supposed to be the main character). Hero was very boring, nothing special there. Heroine was a surprisingly good combination of shrew and lady -- did a much better job captivating us than hero. Recommended. Mostly because of Depp. --------------- Aug 21.03 Went to Jaclyn's house for more Shark Attack movies. Number two still didn't live up to Number three but they were both good cheese. Big thunder storm tonight. Our power kept on flickering. Went out on the front porch to watch another spectacle of nature. --------------- Aug 20.03 Watched It, which was not scary. And apparently my memories of that movie are pretty shot too. Went to Renee's house for Pulp Fiction and Evil Dead: Army of Darknses. Both were OK, but nothing special. Afterward, we had a long conversation into the night out on Renee's front porch. Definitely special. --------------- Aug 19.03 Went downtown to see a Blue Jays game at the skydome. On the way there, saw 12 other Bayview students on the bus. When we got of the subway we headed for Paramount to watch Tomb Raider 2, which was about the same as the last one but a little bit more predictable. In the theatre Sally caused a pad crisis. Met up with the rest of the gang after the movie and headed down to Skydome, where we realized, quite sadly, that our seats were not row 14, level 100, but in fact, row 14, level 500. However, we had a lot of fun screaming until our throats ran dry and doing waves. Aside from an obnoxious 'fan', and the disappointing 9 to 1 home team loss, we had a great time. Later we caught the end of a street magician who was a great act in his own right, and subsequently missed the last bus home. A call to certain parents got us safely back later. Oh how I miss baseball. --------------- Aug 18.03 Downtown for shopping and then House of Cards at my house. Since today's post is kind of lame, I'll address some stuff that doesn't have to do with "what I did today". For starters, I still have lots of things to do this summer -- places I want to see, things I want to do, and stuff that I want (and need) to buy. Regarding the webpage, I'm still devoting all my efforts to getting the Rafting Trip Log up there. I'm about half way through -- yikes. But to be honest, I probably got the most hits in the past one and a half weeks than I ever had before then. I'll try to put lots of pictures up soon after. --------------- Aug 17.03 Went to Lake Wilcox for Serena's birthday barbecue. Played 'red-light-green-light', 'what time is it mr.wolf', and 'marco polo'. During marco polo I bull-charge head-butt tackled Ariel. Some Greek people whom Eric liberally hosed with a water gun invited us to dance with them and gave us cake. The leader kept insisting we stay for one more song, and since my sandals are the ones from Hell (see blister counts in trip log), it was painfully fun. When we were done with dancing, the same guy proceeded to smoke up some unknown substance from a funky pipe/bong thing. Nice people. From now on, I always buy black forest chocolate cherry cakes from Longos. ---------------------- Aug 16.03 Went shopping and bought nothing (tsk). Then went down to my cousin Ryan's birthday barbecue party and got to see my aunt's newborn twins. Thankfully, the power stayed on. ---------------------- Aug 14.03 Went to Hillcrest mall today with Kenneth Jada and Sally, to meet up with Robyn and Jaclyn, and hung out for some time. We were sitting in those cushion-y chairs when the lights went out. It was still reasonably bright. However, all the stores abruptly started locking up. We hung out a little more and then went outside to see what was happening. Apparently the traffic lights were out too. People were on their cell phones, some impotent, and we'd found out that most of Toronto had no power. At this point I figured it'd be a good time to head over to Krispy Kreme to catch some free donuts, so we went there, bought the last bottle of water, had a tea party and 'chilled out' some more. Eventually we decided to head back over to Kenneth's house, where we hung out again and then played a little mah jek before his parents came and we could get rides home. I found the house dead quiet when I got home, but that was because everyone was napping in the basement. My dad woke up and went to pick up my mom from work. My sisters got up and lit candles all over the house. I got to work setting up my telescope in anticipation for a rare light-pollution-free night in Richmond Hill, and then got to work to make tonight's dinner: pork and beans. Every now and then I'd go out to admire the night ... For a brief period of time (my estimate is about one hour) you could see the milky way stretching across the sky. The view wasn't as spectacular as it had been out at the cottage, or rafting, or camping, but it was ... eye-opening in its own right. Seeing the sky like that from your own front yard is something that we can only dream about in this day and age and here was a golden opportunity. Of course, with all the interruptions I'd made while eating, by the time I went out for a walk with the family to see if I could haul my telescope to the nearby school park, the moon (only somewhat less than its full status, three days previously) had risen, and had already begun to wash out the milky way. It was still a wonderful night that I thoroughly enjoyed, however (sometimes I really hate people you know). I didn't get out my telescope, even though some of the sky was still dark, and even though the moon and Mars were about (though lack of light pollution does nothing to their observability). I guess, instead of using my telescope just for the heck of it under rare but mediocre conditions ... It's just something I wanted to remember, seeing it for what it was, with my own eyes. ---------------------- Aug 13.03 Went to Pacific Mall with Kenneth and Jada, where I saw even more ridiculously expensive clothes than I did the other day downtown. Annoying desparate store managers kept breathing down our necks ("what size are you?" "what flavour do you want?"). It was fun, though I must say the mall looks a lot bigger on the outside than it is on the inside -- it's all fobby clothes, dried mushrooms and as-seen-on-tv electronics. Went back to Kenneth's house and watched Memento, which is a perspective-changing, mind-blowing, doubt-raising movie. We also had Battlefield Earth but couldn't bring ourselves to watch it after that. Sally came over later and we played mah jek, and I raped everyone with my lovely Chinese and numerous wins. Note: screaming 'dirty underwear' from a parked car has various results. ---------------------- Aug 12.03 Went downtown, but 'lost' my wallet before I'd even got to the subway station. It was hot. Not incredibly hot, but sticky, sweaty, smelly hot. Today I started at Union and worked my way up to Bloor, just to shake things up a bit. Of note: took seats on escalators, made 7-second at every store, shopped at 3 Gaps (to find that the shirt that I'd been waiting a month for the price to come had disappeared) and got an extreme outfit makeover at one, took several free sample Pina Coladas at Orange Julius, checked out every electronics store I saw. And went all over the place screaming 'dirty underwear' at guilty shoppers. When that was done with, I came back up to Commerce to have bubble tea, where I 'accidentally' flashed some poor unwitting missionary girl and probably scarred her for life. Later, invaded Jaclyn's house to watch the critically acclaimed Shark Attack 3 with her and Sally. This movie was good. Very good. Definitely aspired to join the ranks of great films like Beowulf, the most brilliant movie ever. Of note in Shark Attack 3: nameless hero, unsuccessfully wrinkly plastic surgery sexy heroine, CGI shark punishing the wicked sexers, attempts at emotion, inept coast guards, sharks bumping into boats causing people to fall out, people wearing wetsuits with socks and shoes, and the piece de resistance ... the greatest pickup line of all time. ---------------------- Aug 11.03 Planned to play tennis today but a miniature hurricane turned it into House of Cards chez moi. ---------------------- Aug 08.03 Just got back from the afforementioned three straight weeks of vacation. PHEW! I have 21 days of catching up to do, so I'll just get the basic outline of the trip + inside jokes out of the way before elaborating (yeah right) ... and notice how my first update is RAFTING, which was actually the SECOND week of vacation ... I guess all the cool pictures inspired me huh. They were rockin'. I wish we'd actually taken pictures of *everything* though so I could do a photoscrapbook on the trip log that you could click through as you read. Oh well. Updates are going to take a LONG time. Anyone who knows me knows this. For example, look at the Montreal/Quebec music trip log. Oh boy. Anyway, as I wrote out Rafting Day 1 I realized I don't have enough room in this little box, so I'm putting the trip log in the confessions page where it belongs. My aim is to get one day up each day. If I ever finish, maybe I'll get around to doing the other two weeks of vacation too. What an idea! Eventually, I may get around to the whole site updates with pictures and finishing unfinished business (which you can see at even a brief glance that there is a LOT of). For now though, enjoy reliving the Rafting2003 experience! If you weren't there, may you writhe in jealousy for the next week or two as I slowly illustrate it for you. ---------------------- |
