Know India Programme
December 18th 2006 – January 16th 2007
Organizer: Ministry of Overseas Indian Affairs, Government of India (http://www.moia.gov.in)
The Government of India is organizes this Internship/Orientation program as part of its on-going efforts of associating the younger generation of Indian diaspora closely with India (and to clarify the stereotyped perceptions of India). The program provides a unique forum for students and young professionals of Indian origin to share their views, expectations and experience and bond closely with contemporary India. Only 30 youth are selected from across the world based on their achievements.
The participants should arrive in New Delhi on 18th December, 2006. After initial briefing meetings in the Ministry and calls on high level dignitaries (the President, the Prime Minister, various chief ministers and senior bureaucrats), participants will leave for Kerala on 22nd December. A variety of programmes is being arranged in Kerala, highlights of which are – calls on the dignitaries in the State Government, National Integration Camp in which youth from different parts of India would participate, village stay, sight seeing, visit to Ayurveda hospital and medicinal garden, cultural university, martial arts, interaction with print media, attachment with industry, literacy and women empowerment programmes of the State, etc.
The participants will return to New Delhi on 3rd January, 2007. After short orientations on culture, economy, media and business, they will take part in the youth segment of the Pravasi Bharatiya Divas, 2007 at New Delhi from 7-9 January.
Nehru Yuva Kendra Sangathan (NYKS) – an autonomous body functioning under the aegis of the Ministry of Youth and Sports – is organizing the National Youth Festival at Pune, Maharashtra from 12-16 January, 2007. Participation in this segment is optional.
