Hello, I'm Medha.
I am final year PhD student. I am open to new opportunities.
Ph.D. (Computational Modeling)
Masters in Engineering
Bachelors of Technology
My PhD research focus
During my Ph.D. I tried to understand the pattern formation during embryogenesis. Pattern formation in biology has been studied for around a century now! This topic is especially well suited for someone like me who is peeking into a biological system coming from an engineering background (scroll below to look at my amazing journey!). Pattern formation involves interaction between different materials at chemical, biological, and physical levels. Various theories float in this field trying to explain pattern formation starting from Turing theory which came in the 1950s. Embryos show a variety of patterns before developing into a complete functional organism. Drosophila Melanogaster or simply known as the fruit fly, a tiny insect we often try to get rid of from our fruits, turns out to be a fantastic model organism to study pattern formation. It has a life cycle of 10 days, which makes it easy to study various stages of its development. Even more interestingly, its embryo is transparent which allows us to look inside it. And if that's not sufficient to amaze you, look at the images below showing mutant animals (recall X-men!), embryo patterns, and remember that this fantastic organism develops wings after living a few days as larvae! Imagine, one day you wake up with wings! FeWWW! If you are interested enough you can hear me talk about my research here!

An image I took in my early PhD days! It is amazing to see a whole complex world inside the tiny insect..Affiliations
Here is a summary of my past and current affiliations, including educational and industrial experience. See my story to know more.
2016-present
University of Toronto. Toronto, Canada
Currently, I am at the University of Toronto finishing my Ph.D. Apart from working in my lab doing research, I like to get involved in activities on campus including various workshops and groups. I am actively involved with University clubs and volunteer with the Indian Graduate Student Association (IGSA), Hart House, Student Residence office, etc. I also work as a Teaching assistant.
2015-2016
Indian Institute of Technology Bombay, Mumbai, India
I conducted my Masters research as a research intern in Prof. Mandar Inamdar's lab in the civil engineering department. My study involved understanding biological cell migration from a mechanical, physics, and control systems viewpoint.
2014-2016
University of Mumbai, Mumbai, India
I did my masters with specialization in Control and Instrumentation Engineering. I graduated with Rank=1 and CPI of 9.73
2011-2014
Tata Consultancy Services Limited, India
Working with TCS as a software engineer was an exciting experience. I worked with TCS at their multiple offices at Hyderabad, Gurgaon, Delhi, and Mumbai. I worked for a fortune 500 client- Llyods Banking Group, U.K., and got numerous awards for my work contributions, teamwork, and proactiveness.
2007-2011
Aligarh Muslim University, Aligarh, India
I did my Bachelors with a specialization in Electrical Engineering. During my B.Tech., I did summer internships at BHEL and NTPC to get exposure to industrial projects and the real-time application of classroom studies. I was also involved with volunteering with student NGO groups to serve the community. Finally, I got an B. Tech (honours) degree and graduated with CPI= 9.255.
