University/College, Careers and Beyond
Date: Saturday, November 6, 2004 ~ THIS coming Saturday!
Time: 7:30 pm
Venue: Fo Guang Shan Temple of Toronto, Tea House
(Light refreshments will be provided!)
All are welcome!
What this is all about: This will be a casual and informal session where you can find out more about university/college life from current and graduated students, as well as what pursuing different careers would be like when you graduate from postsecondary studies - with people actually working in the field.
The session will be broken down into two main areas. Postsecondary studies-wise, topics include choosing/applying for a university, supplementary applications, university life, classes/labs/tutorials, residence, scholarships and other forms of financial aid (e.g. OSAP). We will also be inviting some professionals from a wide range of field such as Architecture, Business/Economics, Law, Education, Medicine, Computers, Engineering and Music.

30 Hour Famine
We'll be hosting an official 30 Hour Famine event. For those who have not tried it before, the 30 Hour Famine is a stand against poverty and injustice, where we fundraise to help needy children living in impoverished countries around the world. Last year 140,000 Canadian teens took the challenge, and here's your chance to do the same too!
Start / Registration: Saturday, November 13, 2004 @ 12:30pm
Finish: Sunday, November 14, 2004 @ 6:30pm
Venue: Fo Guang Shan Temple of Toronto
What's Happening for those 30 Hours?
We will have activities, games, movies, and a sleep over arranged at the temple for you all so we can endure the complete challenge together! During the event we will provide you with water and juice but keep in mind this is a famine event, so no food will be provided! If you fear you have medical or physical issues that will prevent you from completing the full event, please let us know ahead of time! First aiders will also be on stand by for the full event :)
What to Bring? Fundraised money, parent consent and medical form, sleeping bag, overnight clothing and items (e.g. pajamas, toothbrush etc.), board games, black and brown chanting robes if you have it, and a strong spirit!
How Do I Collect the Money and Register? For those who are interested, it is very important for you to pick up an official 30 Hour Famine Donation Sheet and collection envelopes at our YAD poster board at the temple. It will be much better for you to go collect funds with your Donation Sheet and collection envelope in hand. For those of you who will be unable to pick up the forms immediately but would already like to start collecting funds, please record down the:
1. First and Last name
2. Mailing Address (street, city, province, postal code)
3. Phone number
4. Donations over will be automatically receipted after year end
The added benefit of those who pick up the forms early is that you can use your Donation Sheet number and register it online at www.famine.ca so people can make donations to you online. It is VERY IMPORTANT that you do not lose the Donation Sheets, as they are official legal documents of World Vision.
For participants under the age of 18, download and fill out a parent consent form and medical form on this site to permit you to participate in the event!
We hope to see many of you there! Best of luck with the fundraising and if you have any further questions, please don't hesitate to forward questions to steven.chan@blia.ca |

[November 12, 2005] Updated 'Join Us' online form.
[September 27, 2004] 11 New articles up.
[April 2, 2004] Switched server; we now have a lot more web storage space. So the site can be expanded greatly in the near future. On a side note, my last exam this year is in early May; so don't expect to see much site updates until then. But once my summer starts, I will finish the 'updator scripts' one by one for our executives (ie. calendar, links updater, article updater, etc.)
[January 17, 2004] - Executives category was too outdated, it was removed on request - Second gallery link taken off, it was a broken link -- sorry!
Additional Note: if there isn't much update these days, it's because I am busy with school; and when I have time, I am usi...More |
