Les travaux rapportés ici portent sur le français parlé
par des Anglo-montréalais scolarisés après la mise sur pied de classes d’immersion
et socialisés dans un Québec officiellement francophone. Nous sommes
principalement intéressées à découvrir dans quelle mesure la compétence en
L2 (grammaire, maîtrise de la variété locale, contrôle de la variation
socio-stylistique) est tributaire de contacts soutenus avec des francophones et
de l’environnement général, y compris l’apprentissage en contexte
scolaire. Nous analysons aussi la perception de ce français L2 par des jeunes
Franco-montréalais.

The Local Colour of Anglophone French in Montreal
ABSTRACT
The paper summarizes a range of our work on the French spoken by the first
generation of young adult Anglophone Montrealers to have been socialized in an
officially Francophone Quebec, and the first generation to have experienced
« French immersion » programs in the English schools. We focus on
the relationship between L2 competence (grammar; mastery of the local variety;
control of socio-stylistic variation) and the type and extent of contact with
Francophones and with the French language and culture. Finally, we report on
Francophone perception of Anglophone French.
