1ST YEAR
TIPS
Getting past 1st year can be really tough,
especially if you cannot adjust to the ‘new’ environment. One of the scary
things about university/college is that time passes by really fast, the next
thing you know your exams are around the corner.
To achieve success, here are some helpful hints you
may find useful:
1)
Try to get a good professor (if you can choose, anti-calendar can
be useful): This will encourage you to attend classes, keep you from falling
asleep.
2)
Always sit in the front: You can concentrate better.
3)
Buy new textbooks: Personally, I find using new textbooks motivate
myself to study more.
4)
Practice previous tests and exams: Practice makes perfect, but
don’t memorize the answers, understand it!!
5)
Highlight the important stuff: Highlight it, don’t let your
books control you.
6)
Find YOUR library: Where is your study place? Find it!!
7)
Pray before study: Talk to God, God is always here for us.
8)
Do not study 2 hours straight: Your brain gets tired; as a result
nothing will be absorbed.
9)
Do not finish your work in the last minute: never do things in the
last minute because Professors expects you to put more thoughts into your
assignment.
10)
Copy (only) useful notes during lectures: self-explanatory
11)
Manage your time wisely:
always look at the clock/watch, so that you will know when to stop
12)
Do not copy other
people’s work: you won’t learn anything, and likely you will get screwed
in your exam.
13)
Join extra-curricular
activities: don’t just study, go out and do something.
14)
Prepare before attending
lectures: you will know what professor is talking about, easier to absorb
the material.
15)
Study groups: share
ideas, and teach each other.
Remember these hints are based on
my past experience, you have no obligation to follow these. If you have your own
way that you think its better, by all means use it.
I’m not responsible for any damages that might cause. That’s it for
now.
Good Luck!!
