Quantum Dots is a kind of semiconduct nanopatical(or
nanopowder or nanocluster or nanocrystal) with quantum property.It is
made from two or more semiconduct materials in II-IV elements with core-shell
structure or colloidal structure.Its size can be as small as 2 to 10
nanometers,corresponding to 10 to 50 atoms in diameter and a total of
100 to 100,000 atoms within the quantum dot volume.
CdS, ZnSe,CdSe/ZnS,CdTe/ZnS and CdSeTe/ZnS are most typically Quantum
Dots.
Due to its quantum property, the quantum dots excited by exterior energy
can emit light from blue to near infrared(400-850nm) depending on size.

As excitable fluoresence materials,QDs has some outstanding
characteristics as compared with organic dye. A)Higher Quantum yield;
B)Emission wavelength can be tuned by size; C)Narrow Full width at
half maximum (FWHM) of emission PL spectrum; and D)Excellent photo-oxide
resistance.
