1. Application in Biomedical and Biological

For cell labelling, tracking cell migration, flow cytometry, fluorescence in situ hybridization, whole-animal contrast agents in vivo, pathogen detection, genomic and proteomic detection, fluorescence resonance energy transfer (FRET) sensors, and high-throughput screening of bio-molecules.(Ref. from: Klostranec, Jesse M. ; Chan, Warren C. 1.1. The QDs surface modification technology

In order to apply in Biology, QDs must be biologically compatible. i.e. It is water soluble, no cytoxicity and stable in biological environment. Because the nanocrastal is toxicity for cells and tissues, so a very important step should be run. That is the nanocrastals must be coated with the polymers and proteins. The functionalized layer with COOH,NH2,OH and SH group can conjugated with DNA, antigen, antibody or some specific proteins, such as Streptavidin and biotin, to realize the applications we need, including DNA sequence and ELISA.
