USING SYSTEMS BIOLOGY TO STUDY (META)EFFECTORS:
Legionella pneumophila delivers over 300 translocated substrates to the host cytosol. Each of these proteins represents an unexplored window into fundamental eukaryotic cell biology. Harnessing the unmatched power of yeast systems biology (made possible by the pioneering work of several of our colleagues at the University of Toronto), we are systematically interrogating the function of these virulence factors using an integrated set of high-throughput screens.

One major focus of the lab is on a new class of bacterial translocated substrates that we have uncovered using these approaches: Metaeffectors - translocated substrates that regulate other effectors rather than directly targeting host factors during infection.
Stay tuned for some exciting examples of this research in the coming year. In the meanwhile, please don't hesitate to contact us if you have any questions.
