farmland Amongst other things, tsunamis can effect Food Production of stricken areas.  Crops may be destroyed by the physical force of the tsunami or due to submersion in salt water. In the long term, the Salinisation of the soil, damaged irrigation and drainage systems and the loss of farmland can also impact agriculture in affected areas.

In some of the areas affected by tsunamis Agricultural Reconstruction is necessary in order to restore productivity and the preexisting ecosystem.

In addition to lost farmland, crop storage, animal housing and feed storage facilities are also often damaged. There is also concern regarding outbreaks of disease amongst livestock due to damaged water and sanitation systems and the movement of animals in order to replace those that are lost.
