Other Animal Species

In the case of the recent tsunami in South East Asia, it would appear that, for the most part, land dwelling Wildlife Avoided the Worst Effects of the Tsunami. It would appear that wild animals may have sensed the impending danger and headed inland and to higher ground. Unfortunately, Farm Animals , in captivity, were not able to escape the advancing water and many perished. elephants

Some reports have indicated that land animals did in fact fare much better than their aquatic counterparts. Apparently zoo keepers at the Yala National Park in Sri Lanka noticed changes in the animals' behavior hours before the tsunami struck the area prompting some to speculate that a Sixth Sense may have alerted them to the impending danger.
Although it would seem that many animals did in fact escape the tsunami, it may very well have destroyed or affected their homes, breeding grounds, and food sources. In Sri Lanka, the coastal habitats of endangered elephants, fishing cats, leopards, and rusty spotted cats may have been severely damaged and biologists are attempting to evaluate the situation in these Tropical Ecosystems. leopard
