Frequently
Asked Questoins (which I made up myself)
What
is 'GARNET CROW'? Who are they?
GARNET CROW(GC for short) is a Japanese 4 membered band that's active
since 1999. Yuri Nakamura, the vocalist of GC, composes all the
songs. She has a rather neutral voice that can sometimes be mistaken
as a boy's.
Regarding why they choose 'GARNET CROW' , in an interview with
NACK5 [GOOD DAY RIVERSIDE], Yuri Nakamura(the lead vocal for GARNET
CROW) remarked "First of all GARNET... it's a gem not so red
as ruby, neither black. The centre of garnet has a deeper and darker
red that vaguely paralelles a humbleness when we talk about music
making. The subtle nuance in colour, or should we say the delicate
harmony in music seems to call for something with deeper meaning.
That's why we choose the word GARNET."
'GARNET' alone sounds too abrupt, they attached 'crow' to it. 'Crow'
has a similar pronounciation to 'kuro' (meaning 'black') in Japanese
and crows are auspicious birds in Japan.
What's
the correct way to write their name?
GARNET CROW. (all in upper case)
What
is their musical style?
That's a difficult question to answer. I would say their style is
a mix of pop rock and latin. Their earliest works are more indie
rock (such as 'futari no rocket', 'natsu no maboroshi') and their
recent works see more pop elements.
How
long have they been active?
Since 1999. And there's definitely a long way to go!!
Are
they popular in Japan?
They're of course not as popular as Mai Kuraki or Rina Auichi who
are under the same music company but they've gained more and more
audience in recent years. From a scale of 0(obscure) to 10(glaringly
popular), I would say 6.
What
are the songs they performed for anime series 'Detective Conan'?
Mysterious Eyes, 夏の幻 (Summer Illusion), 夢みたあとで (after waking up
from a dream), 君という光 (the light named after you) and 忘れ咲き (The forgotten
flower's blooming). Among these Myesterious Eyes is used as opening
song and the rest endings.
Where
can I get hold of their CDs?
Well, if you're not in Asia, finding GC cds is close to nil. Try
the internet! These are the sites I'd recommend: CDJAPAN
(good service), Amazon.jp,
Yes.Asia
(never tried, but seems they provide free worldwide shipping). And
if you don't mind 2nd hand deals, you can always try your local
ebay websites.
