Presentations
Here are some samples of my teaching presentations, done for the Postgraduate level in General Internal Medicine:
- The Last Kiss - This is a Powerpoint presentation done for the ambulatory setting, on the subject of smoking cessation. It takes a multifaceted approach, and aims to improve trainees' understanding of nicotine addiction and its treatment. Particular emphasis is placed upon building a compassionate attitude toward the dilemma that smokers face, and how a combined pharmacologic and behavioural approach addresses that dilemma.
- Perioperative Diabetes Management - This is a nuts-and-bolts approach to designing appropriate perioperative diabetic management, emphasizing a priorities-based structure, and flexibility depending on the patient's and procedure's characteristics.
The following link will take you to a full-length video of my Medical Grand Rounds, given at Mount Sinai Hospital and videoconferenced to Toronto General and Toronto Western, on July 25, 2007. You will need Flash Player 9 to view it.
- Enhancing the Effectiveness of Ambulatory Education – with Theory and Practice. This interactive lecture goes over four theories of adult education and relates them to teaching practices in the ambulatory setting.
I have also provided some references for the general topic of ambulatory medical education and how it relates to theories of adult learning.
