Introduction Welcome to ‘Blackboards at Work’, a material culture study of blackboards in context. Undertaken with an appreciation for the materials, people and literature associated with blackboard use, particular focus has been placed in boards in classroom situations. Included are examples from various historical periods during the last 200 years, but with emphasis placed on the late 19th and early 20th centuries. To learn more about the focus of study, please see Parameters. Otherwise, continue to Thesis. This site will attempt to evoke the dynamism and conceptualism associated with blackboard usage. It is time to put the blackboard to work.
