OMFG!!!
Posted 25/09/2005, 9:04pm

The title pretty much sums up my opinion of the upcoming week. It's going to be a long, hard, "I'm going to be walking bow-legged for weeks!" type of week. Fluid mechanics lab. Concrete lab. Fluid mechanics homework. Solid mechanics assignment. Solid mechanics homework. Lots and lots of classes. Losing day to work due to visitation of family. Fluid mechnaics lab should be about 15 pages long and full of theory. Have not covered the relevant section in fluid mechanics to coincide with the laboratory. Can we say.... Yay!?

I'm fucked.

No, I'm not dead and lying in a gutter somewhere, just really, really busy. Between school work (see my schedule), socializing (re: BEvERages), and pranking (which doesn't exist), I've been a person who has no time to update. I do have photos from F! Week 0T5 going up soon, though. Whenever I get them back and have time to upload them.

And for those who were in suspense about my last mark (the Material Science mark), it was a 77.

Rolling in...
Posted 03/05/2005, 2:24pm

Three more of my marks have been released.

Calculus 2 was an 80. Which is really good, considering the exam average... but it's still lower than I wanted, considering I had an 88 going in to the exam.

Fundamentals of Computer Programming returned (pun alert!) an 85. Again, that's pretty good, because a lot of people were struggling with this course. And I mean, A LOT. Who knew that C programming could trip up so many people?

English was a 72. Yes, I'm not happy about that. But the course was designed by an engineer-hating artsie. No matter how hard I tried, the marks were dismal. And it's not that I didn't understand, either. Everyone in my tutorial group found the same thing occuring with their marks. Stupid english.

Now it's just a waiting game for Material Science to come back...

1-Up!
Posted 30/04/2005, 1:08am

Yes, the pun is intentional. That's all I have to say. =)

One of my final marks is up on ROSI... but not the other four. Go figure, it's the University of Toronto! *insert sigh here* Still... one is better than none. Especially considering the mark. A whooping 92! And I thought I had failed the exam! Woot! Go me!!!

So now we just have to wait on the other four to come rolling in... Calculus 2 with the 44.5% exam average... *snicker*

Fine, be Stupid!
Posted 25/04/2005, 5:34pm

Apparently the validation buttons aren't showing up in several browsers (they seem to be intermittent in Firefox). While the website is technically valid HTML 4.01 Transitional, I'm not going to have the buttons messing my stuff up. So out they go! Stupid buttons...

Exams are done. I should be happier. Maybe it hasn't sunk in yet... or I'm still worn out. Those were hard buggers... much harder than first semester.

My hardhat is still under construction. Once it's done I'll probably put a bunch of images of it up in the Student Life section so you can marvel at its NASCAR-ness. And stop laughing before I get my non-existant friends in the really cool coveralls to take you away.

Things Could be Worse!
Posted 18/04/2005, 4:00pm

In the time of exams, frustration, and many tears, it's always a good reminder that things could be worse. One of my UT2004 clanmates posted this up on our forums and felt it was worthy of archiving on the front page here.

Read on and you'll see why...

A father passing by his son's bedroom was astonished to see the bed was nicely made and everything was picked up. Then he saw an envelope propped up prominently on the center of the bed. It was addressed, "Dad". With the worst premonition, he opened the envelope and read the letter with trembling hands:

Dear Dad,
It is with great regret and sorrow that I'm writing you. I had to elope with my new girlfriend because I wanted to avoid a scene with Mom and you. I've been finding real passion with Joan and she is so nice, even with all her piercing, tattoos, and her tight Motorcycle clothes. But it's not only the passion dad, she's pregnant and Joan said that we will be very happy. Even though you won't care for her as she is so much older than I, she already owns a trailer in the woods and has a stack of firewood for the whole winter. She wants to have many more children with me and that's now one of my dreams too. Joan taught me that marijuana doesn't really hurt anyone and we'll be growing it for us and trading it with her friends for all the cocaine and ecstasy we want. In the meantime, we'll pray that science will find a cure for AIDS so Joan can get better; she sure deserves it!

Don't worry Dad, I'm 15 years old now and I know how to take care of myself. Someday I'm sure we'll be back to visit so you can get to know your grandchildren.

Your loving son,
John

PS: Dad, none of the above is true. I'm over at the neighbor's house. I just wanted to remind you that there are worse things in life than my report card that's in my desk center drawer. I love you! Call when it is safe for me to come home.

Hey, Look!!!
Posted 26/03/2005, 4:55pm

I finally stopped being lazy today. Yes, I can hear the cheers already. I updated the Student Life section and the Schedule section today. Student Life now has the F!rosh Week 0T4 pictures up. Only took me 8 months. Schedule also now has pretty images. Oooh, shiney.

More updates to come... I'm going for F!rosh Leader 0T5...

We Are Watching...
Posted 05/03/2005, 9:48pm

Okay, so I haven't updated this recently. I've been busy. That, and I've been using my LiveJournal to do my general rants recently. Don't ask about the account name. It's a long, old alias that I've generally phased out, except where laziness at reregistering an accoutn ahs stopped me.

I've been pretty damn busyt recently. Toboozing with the Blue & Gold Committee (Leona, it's your fault that there are now four very injured F!roshies. =p), pranking with the 0T8 Committee (the hamster cage was key, guys), and of course, general shit causing with non-existant, imaginary people.

Good times.

Pilot's Gripe Sheet
Posted 11/12/2004, 12:01am

After reading this, which I found in my inbox this morning (yes, I do sometimes read spam messages, depending on whether it gets by the junk mail filters or not), I thought that it would be worthwhile to share. Is anyone other than me even reading this website? Probably not. Just a forewarning to anyone who tries to mess with an engineers humour: you'll lose. This gem proves it. Gotta love ground crews and engineers.

After every flight, pilots fill out a form called a gripe sheet, which conveys to the mechanics problems encountered with the aircraft during the flight that need repair or correction. The mechanics read and repair the problem and then respond in writing on the lower half of the form with what remedial action was taken, and then the pilot reviews the gripe sheets before the next flight. Never let it be said that ground crews and engineers lack a sense of humor.

Here are some actual logged maintenance complaints and problems as submitted by Quantas pilots and the solutions recorded by maintenance engineers. (P = the problem logged by the pilot; S = the solution and action taken by the mechanics.)

P: Left inside main tire almost needs replacement.
S: Almost replaced left inside main tire.

P: Test flight OK, except auto-land very rough.
S: Auto-land not installed on this aircraft.

P: Something loose in cockpit.
S: Something tightened in cockpit.

P: Dead bugs on windshield.
S: Live bugs on backorder.

P: Autopilot in Altitude-hold mode; produces a 200-foot per minute decent.
S: Cannot reproduce problem on ground.

P: Evidence of leak on right main landing gear.
S: Evidence removed.

P: DME volume unbelievably loud.
S: DME volume set to more believable level.

P: Friction locks cause throttle levers to stick.
S: That's what they are there for.

P: IFF inoperative.
S: IFF always inoperative in OFF mode.

P: Suspected crack in windshield.
S: Suspect you're right.

P: Number 3 engine missing.
S: Engine found on right wing after brief search.

P: Aircraft handles funny.
S: Aircraft warned to straighten up, fly right, and be serious.

P: Target radar hums.
S: Reprogrammed target radar with lyrics.

P: Mouse in cockpit.
S: Installed cat.

P: Noise coming from under instrument panel, sounds like a midget pounding on something with a hammer.
S: Took hammer away from midget.

Update
Posted 2/12/2004, 5:53pm

Remember said pumpkins from my last update? Well, they're rotting away nicely now. I wonder how long it'll be before U of T decides to fish the ones down from on top of the Alumni Gates. ;)

Devil's Night
Posted 29/10/2004, 7:16pm

Curses to all who demolished our graveyard at SAC (sux) last night! Do you have any idea how long it took us to make it!? A whole three hours. Yeah, so much for effort there. And they cleaned up the toilet paper disaster we left behind as well. I still think the best line of the night was "F!rosh... you have toilet paper... I see trees. That's all I'm gonna say."

At least our pumpkins lasted. Plenty of good places to hide em... imapled on a lightning rod on Bahen... the top of McLennan Physics... the roofs of various buildings... even the Alumni Gates got hit. And you couldn't miss the one on Sidney Smith, with a very special message for the Artsies (Hehehehehe...).

Now we just wait for those things to rot. Then the real fun begins...

Why Did I Do This To Myself?
Posted 30/09/2004, 10:19pm

I get one night off with no work whatsoever. So, what do I do? Fire up for a long-awaited and much earned gaming night. I could have played Unreal Tournament 2004. I could've played some Halo. But no, I didn't play them. No, I had to be stupid and scare myself shitless by playing System Shock 2 again. The game scared the freaking crap out of me the first time. Still does...

If you've never heard of this game, go hunting for it. A sleeper hit, for sure. It's an older game, but it sure as heck does not dissapoint.

Small Update
Posted 25/09/2004, 5:46pm

Just a small update to let everyone know that yes, I still am alive. A little ill, at the moment, but breathing nonetheless. University has really been hectic for me, but I think I'm beginning to cope. At least, I hope I'm coping, otherwise I could be in serious trouble.

And yes, I have the F!rosh pictures ready to be uploaded, but I'm just being really lazy about getting everything set-up for them. I should have them up relatively soon.

Beverage & Food Committee
Posted 10/09/2004, 5:29pm

Last night rocked! Holy shit! Who would've guessed that a select few of us would actually get to partake in that? Just... wow... it was so beautiful. I now know what I have to do. For Skule Spirit!!

For those of you who were there, do not forget what we swore to uphold. Also do not forget the quote on your invitiation. It is now your motto. Honour it, because we are part of something that very few people get a chance to be part of.

Funny How That Works
Posted 06/09/2004, 12:01am

Murphy's Law struck Archer Net last night. Seems that in my sleep-deprived stupor, I managed to break almost every page by not linking the style sheet and images correctly. Whoops on my part. Also notice how that came shortly after Archer Net became W3C compliant. Hmmm...

Now, I guarentee that by me posting this here, something else will break within the next 24 hours. But, at least I got Schedule validated this time. Who would've guessed that I had two different types of hyphens appearing (how the heck did I get a non-standard hyphen to appear, at that?).

It's now 1:35am...
Posted 05/09/2004, 1:35am

Excuse me while I fall over from lack of sleep. This website has kept me up much longer than I anticipated. Partly because I was making sure that everything was coded so that it was HTML 4.01 Transitional valid. See the new buttons on the left? Yes, the yellow ones. That means this site is now valid by web standards. Which probably means nothing to you, regardless. It's more for my own infantile boasts ("My site is valid! Yours isn't! Pwn joo lolol!!!!!11").

Everything except the Sechedule section, that is. For some reason, the validator does not like my hyphens. I'm too lazy to fight with that right now. Another fight, another day. I need sleep. Now.

Jailbreak!
Posted 28/08/2004, 11:20pm

Yes, the title is UT2k4 related again. Must cram it into every minute possible, due to the fact that university is gonna kill my free time.

Schedule has been added to the website. Notice that my fall semester is a lot easier than my winter semester. I mean, come on, on Fridays I only have to go in from 10am to 1pm. Sweet. Also notice that I have zero (yes, count em yourself) practicals in my fall semester. Apparently, someone is watching out for me. First ever semester at U of T, and already it looks like it isn't going to be a slaughterfest. Maybe I'll actually have time to adjust to university life...

Why was I worried about the EPA? I mean, yeesh. I could've wrote the thing blindfolded. Well... maybe not. Point is, I got placed into the ENG182 class. It counts for a credit. That's all I care about. End of story. Sad, isn't it, how my life is driven by the will to earn credits?

Link The Node!
Posted 26/08/2004, 11:20pm

For those of you that have played the Unreal Tournament 2004 gametype Onslaught online, the title of this post will leave you shaking your head as you agree with me. The... "skill", shall we say of most Onslaught players leaves a sour taste in the mouth. Not a pleasent experience.

However, said title also has a dual meaning. I just finished updating the "Other Links" section, partly because I had a new addicting website to add (http://www.thisisnotporn.com), and a few others to relink (http://surface.yugop.com no longer existed, which posed a bit of a problem).

I wonder if anyone is actually reading this... I need to find a way to include a tag board into this site. Too bad tag-board.com tagboards are spyware bloated. Not fun at all.

After A Long Hiatus...
Posted 22/08/2004, 10:04pm

EPA!! EPA!! EPA!! EPA!! EPA!! EPA!! EPA!! AUGH!!!!!!!!!!!!

Okay... now that I got that out of my system... I really don't want to write the English Proficiency Assesment. I can read, write, and speak English, thank you very much. I don't need to write an essay to tell myself that.

Now that the start of first year is approaching (*sigh*), expect to see more updates occuring on Archer Net.

From The Desk Of Wise-Guy Mike...
Posted 30/07/2004, 12:23am

As I sit here, in my darkened room, staring at the ever-so-bright CRT monitor... I ponder... were computers designed to aid us or drive us eternally insane?

See, I upgraded my motherboard a few days ago... and I have been in computer hell since. I have seen Windows errors I thought never existed. My Internet has really acted up. Not fun at all.

So... my advice to you... don't upgrade your motherboard unless you plan on wiping your hard-drive and starting fresh. If you try and do na old installation on a new board, you'll regret it. Trust me.

Mein Poor Arms!!!
Posted 24/07/2004, 7:13pm

I just did up some Engineering specific stuff.... including Godiva's Hymn. Remind me never, never, NEVER, to type that up again! Holy freaking shit, that was a bitch to do!

To make up for the fact my arms are now worthless, you will read it. Or I will point at you and yell "HARDHAT!". Read the Eng. Quotes section to see what that entitles.

How Many Forumers Does It Take To Change A Lightbulb?
Posted 21/07/2004, 1:05pm

Don't ask what the title refers to. If you do a search on Google, you could probably find the joke. It has to do with lightbulbs, and the various traits of forumers.

As for Archer Net, I'm scrapping the whole main page professionalism, and going for more of a personal aspect to it. No, I will not turn this into a blog, but I will post stuff tp the main page that I found intresting.

Now, go use Google. The lightbulb article is calling you.
