When I picked up the novel earlier today, the story still thrills me. The lifes of expatriates, Spainish culture, Bull fighting, Streets in Pamplona, I feel like the way as I just read it yesterday. After the novel, I was quite fascinated in Spain and Spainish culture for a long period. I said to myself after reading, "it's either the fantastic Spainish connection that gets on my nerve, or does the brillant writing of Hemingway. In a novel like this, it's gonna be both.". "The sun also rises" is the first short novel Ernest Hemingway wrote. It was said, after Hemingway read F. Scott Fitzgerald's "The Great Gatsby", he got the inspiration to write a novel. The irony is,prior to that,he wasn't interested in novel writing. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Sun_Also_Rises -------------------------------------------------------------- updated: May 1, 2005 "送别 - Farewell" 到了大家要离开的季节，不管是短暂的，还是长久的．考试的时候就有 jimmy和Neo要早早回国，因为一些事没去吃那顿送别饭，后来倒是问候 了jimmy，但是Neo就一直没有机会．昨天又是Jay和Lizheng的送别饭， 虽然没什么特别的气氛，但走的时候还是觉得心里高兴不起来．今天又 是老大的饭，在加上大叔，丝瓜不一定什么时候也要走，所以更多了一 些说不出来的东西．当然，自己不知道什么时候也要回国，到时候也许 想吃饭连同学朋友都找不到了．还有更多更多的人要离开，短暂的，长 久的，我们最终都要离开所熟悉的一切，不是么？ 为所有人送行，祝大家玩的愉快，工作的顺利，我们还都会是＂在一起＂的． -------------------------------------------------------------- updated: Apr 30, 2005 "简·芳达 - Jane Fonda" OK, I should've wrote this entry 2 weeks ago, on the day I met her. Of course, not intentionally, I was wandering around at Bay/Bloor area. So, as always, I went into Indigo, the- -bookstore, and looking for new books and magazines. Something I found unusual this time is that there were over a hundred people in the lower level of the store. suddently the news of Jane Fonda's arrival recalled in my mind. Huh, so, she is in town, and she will come here very soon for the book signing. After a half an hour wait, she finally came, along with her 2nd husband(she had 3, more or less a lagacy passed through her father, Henry Fonda, he had 5 wives). Then it was the questione-answering time, she first spoke some charity work she and her 2nd husband doing, and later she answered quite a lot of questions, one of them is regarding to the "gay- -marrige" issue. she joked about it by addressing her assisent, a homosexual, that he had been keeping a relationship with his partener for 11 years. And Fonda said "Hi, I had never kept a- -relationship that long, so as long as they find the love of their life, I guess gay marrige is A-OK.". Everybody laughed. There came the book signing after approxmitely 30 mins speech. I bought the book eventually, but not on that day. Now, talking about Jane Fonda, people my age probably have only a rough image who she is, and the image came with the movie "On Golden Pond", in which she played a daughter, her real life father, Henry Fonda, played the father. Jane was the producer of that film, and asked her father to take a role. Three months after the film, Henry Fonda passed away. thereofore, his last movie, and the only movie the father and the daughter worked together.
