Educational Vendors.
UofT
Computer Shop. Sales and Service. This is my first
choice for Apple hardware, and any software I can't
get from UofT
Software Licensing. The Bookstore's educational
pricing offers deep discounts on most commercial products,
usually beating all other players, including mighty
MacWarehouse. Software inventory is usually good but
demand is high, so save yourself some aggravation
and call first. Best price in the city for individual
zip disks. I've had very good experience with the
Service/Repair Center. Student ID required for Educational
pricing. Consult
the UofT online store (requires cookies).
UofT
Software Licensing. Deep discounts on special
licenses for UofT faculty, staff and students. Excellent
choice for the big ticket software items (like office
suites, etc.). Student ID required. Downside: No manuals,
and sometimes no tech support from vendor. Read the
fine print before you buy!
UofT
Computing Networking Services Micromaintenance Group.
Sales and service. Available to UofT faculty, staff
and grad students only. Anatole is the Mac man. Friendly,
knowledgeable and competitively priced depot and on-site
service. The best kept secret on campus. Leave a message
if they're out.
Catalogue Retailers.
MacWarehouse
Canada 1-800-268-7805. The biggest and most powerful
Canadian catalog retailer. Macwarehouse's market muscle
will usually outprice everyone but the Educational
vendors. Retail showroom and service center at 651
Queen Street East, (416) 466 8289. Unadvertised deals
sometimes available at the Queen Street shop.
Local Vendors.
Carbon Computing
Friendly and knowledgeable staff. Competitive pricing.
Computer Systems Centre. In my experience:
Rude. Expensive. Lots of EM interference for your
viewing pleasure. 275 College Street (416) 927-1921.
1 block from UofT Bookstore. Online
calalogue (requires cookies and Java).
CPused
Great place. New and used Macs and Mac peripherals.
Certified service center. Competitive prices with
daily price
list on the website. Very good reputation. They also
run a non-Mac shop.
Mediascape Competitive
prices on CD Rom games, if you like that sort of thing.
Here's some other local vendors. I've had no experience
with any of these yet, but it always pays to shop
around.Mostly
Mac, Simply
Macs.
